Hrm, very fatty mammal that spends lots of time in cold water... Anyone know if they taste like whale meat? Perhaps we could collect and sell them to Asian countries in exchange for reduced whaling, then the enviros would drop their lawsuits pretty quick!

Theres a reason why I keep a slingshot and a few rocks in my boat....

Lots of folks carry paintball guns out there. I'm sure a few guys have popped off a few .45's or .357's into them out in the middle of sound when no ones around...

Those things get aggressive. Lots of stories at the docks or boat launches where they do some dangerous crap around fisherman, grabbing fish outta guys hands, jumping onto docks or boats.

WOW!! OhMyGod I have never heard of that before!!! That is just plain dangerous and really bad when "wild" animals become so accustomed to humans being around they get too aggressive and start doing things like that... not good. This is getting to the point just like that one coyote that went and tried to take the dog off the leash when a person was standing right there holding the leash!!! They then killed the coyote because it was too comfortable around humans......

Jordan,
I've heard of many stories involving aggressive sea lion behavior. I've heard of sea lions grabbing fish out of peoples hands who are holding the fish in the water, heard of em climbing up on transoms and even into boats to get after the fish they see go in the boat, even heard about a dog getting snatched off a dock by a sea lion...

What people forget is that they are (smart) wild animals and they learn to get away with more and more....Not to mention dangerous and very very large....

JUST IN THE CR?????? WTF, they are a problem every where in the PS and the coast. TRAPPING...screw that kill them all, they serve no purpose other than stinking up our harbors and eatting the fish we so desire to catch. I agree that they should issue tags for these things, I would love to be out fishing and tag a couple. Not sure what I would do after shooting them, maybe tie a 5000lb piece of concrete to it and let it sink. Either way trapping isn't going to do much, they will just come back again.

I saw a lot of guys pull those high power pellet guns out and shoot them with those. Some of those pellets travel at over 1500 fps We had troubles with them at Willamette falls in Oregon. They stole my first springer off my line when I was a kid.

We all joke about it but they are critters just like a dog (yea, yea.. I know). Any actions againts them should be humane.

Paint Balls is a good idea if you turn up the pressure. It will only give them a bruise and reason to leave.

Even a high speed pellet will not kill one, just injure it, injured animales are more dangerous. It will develope an infection and slowly die. Same with bows, not a good idea. Plus, if you get caught you will be charged with animal crulity.

A real bullet is the answer if you NEED to dispatch one. Not a pellet gun.

NOAA approves the use of slingshots, paintball guns, or firecrackers to fend off nusiance seals and sea lions. It's only legal if you " are in the act of fishing". WDFW upholds NOAA's fedral guidlines. The seals are around all year as are a few lions, but most lions are migratory, coming with the kings in the summer and staying till chums are done in Nov.. I agree with thinning their populations, but how do we do it succesfuly on an animal that is in the sound for 4 months?

If you google it, you can probably find some videos of kayak fisherman being pulled around by harbor seals and the like when the seal takes hold of the fish being caught. The common term for it is "sleigh ride"

Hey Ram if you think that these wouldn't kill a sea lion with a head shot you are wrong. Here is a real pellet gun in action.

Well... its not my old Crossman. I have not taken my boat into the sound yet so I havnt seen what they are like in person. Self defence is one thing, we should let the athorities handle it for the most part.

OK guys,
Let’s steer away from advising some unknown extremist to commit an illegal act. I don’t like the seals and sea lions ether because of all of the damage they do to spawning fish but this thread is starting to get ugly.

Bragging may not bring happiness, but no man having caught a large fish goes home through an alley.
