I've fished smaller streams but this was my first season fishing rivers. Caught a few Humpies on the Snohomish and Skykomish. Caught my first steelhead on the Pilchuck and a few Cutthroat here and there.

So what's next? I hear about the "Spingers" coming into the Columbia. I assume there are runs my area but I don't think they can be kept? When do summer steelhead start to show up and how long does the season last? How about Silvers and other salmon? What smaller trout do you fish for all summer long?

While I love lake fishing with the wife's grandkids in the summer, I think I have a case of river fever that has only one cure...

Road trip to the Cowlitz for springers. Curado I think is pretty knowledgeable on this subject...

Well along with summer steelies you will have chinooks and cohos running soon......well maybe not soon but soon enough. If you are still hunting for some steel head now head out to the olympic rivers and try your luck on some natives. I am 0-2 for my last two trips but great water to fish out there, with lots of choices. Plus if you don't mind keeping 1 native, a few of the rivers you can get you one native a year out of them.

Lots of rivers hold rainbows in the summer, most rivers they have to be a min size of 14". The green being one of them. There is a great stream close to Mt Rainier the gets stock around the begining of july every year that have some nicely fed trout and it fun to fish, but hit on the first weekday after it gets stock in order to get away from the 50 people trying to fish the few holes on the stream.

I think, Im just about done with the steelhead season. I know it would be fun to hook into a native, but to drive all over the OP for a fish I can't take home and show off, just isn't justified for me. I will be down to the Cowlitz mid-March for some springer action. For those of you who can understand the Cowlitz Regs, what is a chinook keeper and how many are you allowed?

Thanks
