I just purchased a 18' boat with a 120 horse outboard johnson. I live right next to the locks in ballard and can put in there. I was wondering what fish are in open seasons. I am having trouble with the regs. I though crab was closed till june but saw many pictures of crab in recent posts. I also have a couple of down riggers and would like to troll for chinook or silvers is area 9, 10 or 11 good right now. Thanks
John

Hit Lake Washington for some downrigger trolling practice targeting the Cutts. You'll find all the info you need on this site to get started with a little bit if searching. Right now area 10 is closed for salmon and that means no rockfish as well. Crabbing closed in January for Puget Sound and won't re-open till Summer. If you want to target salmon you need to travel a bit either by land or sea. With your 18' boat, running to areas 8.2, 9 or 11 from Ballard this time of year can be risky.

Welcome and grtz on the new boat. Not much for salmon this time of year, some black mouth out in the sound jsut check the regs for that area you want to fish. Depending on the area you are planning on fishing, it might be cheaper for you to tow it closer to the location. Unless money isn't a concern for you. Make sure you have all your saftey gear on your boat prior to heading out.
