Squidding

Hey all, Im going to be over in Seattle next weekend for the garden show (SWMBO/mother mandate), and would like to know if anyone has been trying to catch squid. I hear they are in season currently. I plan on doing that show, go over to the Center for Wooden Boats, and maybe catch some squid or fish near Seattle.

Any reccomendations are appreciated.

Should be the best time of the year for them. They should be the biggest they've been all year too. Des Moines Pier, Seacrest, Pier 86....All will be productive if you get the right tides. Cloudy nights work best, or moons that aren't anything near 1/2 full. Incoming tide...

Try to go on the incomming high tide.If you go to the public fishing pier youll find lights set up on gennies and alot of folks squidding.Good luck.On a side note ,I go with my mom to the garden show also.It mine and moms warmup outing getting ready for Mariners.We split season tics together.

while you can catch squid all year, winter time is best. that being said, squidding for this winter is over. it was a bad year.

season is open all year, and so technically it is not "season ended". I meant catching is ineffective.

Usually, you can tell that squidding is good by the large number of people at night on the Seattle piers. Now, the piers are deserted at night, except for a few homeless folks that linger about. "Catching isn't effective"

Oct thru January is usually best. By early Feb it is just about dead, although you might catch one here and there.

Sad, guess its just the garden show and possibly a quick run to the Center for Wooden Boats for me.

It wouldn't be hard to run over to the docks for 30 and see if it's producing.

There is also Outdoor Emporium on 4th behind Safeco Field - it's not Cabella's but it is good for a look or two. Hey if your talking about the NW Flower and Garden show at the WS Convention Center, if you happen to be there Friday afternoon - My dog and I will be at the Reading With Rover Booth from 2-6pm. Stop by and say hi - we can put faces to names. I'll be the bald guy with the old Yellow Lab..

We are arriving at (im guessing) 2p from Spokane. Meeting the fam and heading out. Im not sure if we are going to be at the show fri night, but thats our destination for the trip. If we are in on friday, Ill definitely make it a point to come over and say hi. There will be a considerable entourage (both parents, wife, brother, sis in law, nephew), so it may be a quick stop.

I go to Lincs on Rainier ave South for my squid jigs.They have a wonderful line of jigs from Japan.They also make and sell their own.They are a small mom and pop fishing store in Seattle.Its worth going there to look at the old and the new gear.Im not plugging for them as an ad.I love their store .Its like the old days stores like Tashiros or the old Seacrest Marina.

I have to agree with Shad eating grin. Its been really slow for the most part this year for me.
You never know though, it may be worth a try...

Turns out it didnt work out time-wise.

Fishing time turned into Center for Wooden Boats time, as the other 36 hrs were booked solid!
