You don't reel it. You play the line with a good bend in the rod. Let the ROD do the fighting. You use your hand/fingers as the 'drag' to let out line when the fish runs. You then use your hand/fingers to draw the line back in, letting the line fall to the ground/bottom of the boat. You can reel in most of that loose line if you want, just don't step on the line.

Look on Youtube for a video, I'm sure there are a few on that.

HAHA! That's a good way to describe it though, just like you're stripping the line in when nymphing, strip it like you do when you have a fish on. Sometimes the fish will swim towards you and you want to get tension on the fish, therefore striping because reeling it all that line would take a minute or two.

I almost always fight fish on the reel using the drag. I'm right handed and hold the rod in my right hand, the line in my left hand. When I hook a fish, I get it under control, then switch the line to the right hand also holding the rod. Just pinch it with your fingers. Then reel up the slack with your left hand until you have it on the reel. You can supplement the drag if needed by palming the spool. Sometimes fish will do crazy things and this process won't be possible..... improvise! Strip line, back up etc. After some practice this will become second nature. Good luck!
