[scared] I wouldn't want to be casting that thing. [laugh] I'm glad we are allowed only 3 hooks on a lure in this state. [rolleyes]

Doesn't this sort of defeat the purpose of fishing? How are you supposed to experience any kind of fight out of a fish if you hook them on that rig? Might as well just use a weighted trebel hook.

I think this is suppose to be a gag photo (as I don't think there is any state this would be legal to fish for bass with), but I don't know for sure.

I do know that a similar kind of rig is used on the east coast for striper fishing. They are called umbrella rigs and contain anywhere from 4 to 10 or more baits.

Yup, the Alabama Rig is just a downsized Umbrella Rig to fit Bass, as the 'inventer' of the Ally rig said. [biggrin]

Well I guess if you wanted to mimic a SCHOOL of baitfish - that'd be the way to do it...
I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

that thing is ridiculous and definitely can't be legal.

i'm just glad they banned the original alabama rig from major bass tournaments. the people who won tournaments using that, i automatically lost a good chunk of respect for. it's pretty dang close to cheating and it's super cheap. for recreational fishing i could approve of the alabama rig but definitely not for tournament fishing.

I haven't heard that they made it illegal, where'd you read/hear that? But then I haven't read my B.A.S.S. Times or Bassmaster Magazine in years. :-k

The shows I have seen these rigs used in typically have one bait with a hook in it trailing way behind the rest of the "school" to comply with certain State's regulations. We all know that predators usually go after the weak and the stragglers and it works pretty well. I know what you blackmouth fishermen are thinking, that just might work in the Sound. One suggestion, make the center trailer a downrigger release on which to clip your bait\lure.

Thanks for the link, [thumbup] I do agree with that. More than one lure in that 'lure' combination.

i plan on purchasing and fishing with the finesse 3 wire alabama rig as well as the 5 wire alabama rigs. immediately people will probably try to tell me that 5 wire alabama rigs are illegal in washington. the simple answer is NO they are NOT. you just can't have more than 3 hooks on it. chew on that for a second. the rigging ideas are only limited to your imagination.

Yup, we discussed that this past weekend at the Sportsman
Show. A few alternatives to hooks were mentioned. KGM Custom Baits in Auburn makes the 3-wire ones, maybe he can make 5-wire ones for you.
