Ice Walleyes

Ice Walleyes

Postby JakeTischer » Fri Jan 06, 2012 4:34 pm

Hello, I just moved to the Spokane area from Minnesota and I was wondering if anyone knows where a guy could get into some ice fishimg walleyes. I have been doing some research and have found a few lakes that seem like good possibilities. Soda Seems like a decent bet. I was getting very excited reading older reports about sprague lake then I almost puked when I came across a newer site that informed me of the mass assassination in order to get rid the lake of the two best fish that swim (walleye and smallmouth). The difference in fishing culture from Minnesota to hear is amazing. But one thing is the same, both are ruining their walleye fishery. In Minnesota walleyes are horribly overfished and here they are straight up poisened. I understand that there are many people in this area that appreciate walleyes as well, but that whole story just makes my stomach turn.

Anyway, any help on a lake with walleyes under the ice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

Welcome Jake!
Not sure there will be any ice fishing this year.
Took a drive down to Soda and Long last week.
Soda has no ice and Long had very little.
On the bright side it looks like we will have a early spring this year.

Mark there is to much ice to launch and not enough to walk on, lol.
Potholes is open in the main lake and there is open water in the coulle above Rd. M.
There is ice from just above Rd M to just past the mouth of the coulle.
Soda has open water in the main lake with ice in the bays.
There is water running through the drain on the south end and the lake is lower than it has been in years.
Now would be a good time to get photos of the structure in Soda.

Ouch on conditions! Kudos for making the reconnaissance!
Sounds like I'll need to stick with lakes at higher elevations this year. Last year I was able to hit Evergreen and Moses going to/from Colville/Kettle Falls.
Thanks YellowBear!

I have not been over to Evergreen but with all of the open water we have here, I would expect Evergreen to be unsafe.
At least for me, lol.
