Postby NimmunDay » Tue Aug 07, 2012 9:30 pm

Hey everyone my names Chris! Im looking for any suggestions on a good baitcasting rod to use for sea run cutts, humpies, flounder jigging, drifting for steel head. An all porpose rod. But not too heavy, 1 oz tops. Any help would be really awesome! Thanks. Price needs to be under $200. I already know what reel im getting. :fish:

shimano clarus line-up is very nice, around $100 but very well worth it, or the berkley air IM8 rods, even st croix has lower priced rods that are fantastic, go on cabelas.com and check out the rods and reviews

i fished my buddys convergence was not very impressed . shimano clairus...they both felt cheap and unbalanced and heavy imho.if you want light like you stated look at a xmg or stealth si 9'- 6-12 # or loomis... compare it to convergence and clairus youll see what i mean.you did say light rite??

I second OFFDA. I've looked at those rods and they feel off balanced, bulky and all around overkill. I'd recommend you check out the Temple Fork Outfitters rods. They have a 6 -12 and a 10 17 that are sweeet little rods. I have the 4 to 10 model myself and it's a sweet little steelhead rod. At 120 bucks, you're getting a loomis quality rod.

I'm a poor mans fisherman. I just cant allow myself to spend 3+ bills on a rod. I have several clarus rods and love the action. I have never fished with a loomis or fetha, or any other high end rod so its hard to compare. But for 100 bucks the Clarus just cant be beat IMHO. landed some nice springers with the 11'3 6-10 Center pin rod rigged up with a spinning reel, and several steelies on a 9' 6-10 casting and a 10' 6-10 spinning. Neither of these rods has failed me once.

IMHO the Berkley IM-8 Air rods are the best bang for the buck rods and are under $100 by quite a bit. They go on sale a few times a year for about $55-60.
