Postby bugmasta » Mon Jun 25, 2012 6:32 am

I have to head to the chehalis area for a couple days of work and was wondering if someone could give me some insight on where i could river fish from the bank. don't worry about me stealing you secret hole :-# , as this will not be a regular spot for me to fish. just want to know of some good areas where i can kill some time and maybe land a fish or 2. thanks! :salut:

if you want to keep it super secret, just shoot me a PM, thanks in advance. [thumbsup]

No just not much happening down there... You can fish the nooch for steelies.. out of montie head north on nooch river road first bridge you come to thats the first access hole above tide water you can fish there..not much public access above that...Or the chehalis is open for springers theres a boat launch south of montie you can plunk there...Hope that helps....Your best bet is the cow blue creek or the dam.....

Chehalis is open til the 30th for salmon, but you could always try for sturgeon. Wynoochee also gets planted with summer run steelies.

The Cowlitz is 30 minutes from Chehalis, and the closest spot to fish for anything in a river. The Chehalis river is boring, froggy and full of cow manure and bass until you go upstream on 6 west. The nooch is an hour and a half from Chehalis, and you'd be no closer to it than from home down there. Skook is barren until later unless you want to harass the spawning kings. The Newaukum has cutthroat in it, but you're more likely to hook a chub or a sucker.

Barrier or Blue Creek would be the best bet in the area. Depends on how far you're wanting to drive after a long day at work. If you scour the forum in the search box for "Cowlitz" or something like that, I posted a map with all the good spots marked in google maps somewhere, I forget where.

I grew up in Centralia, if I still lived there, that's where I'd be.

When is a good time to start fishing the Skook again? I fished in the winter for steelhead and would like to know more about this river since I live so close. Birdhunter
