I had a meeting in Moses Lake this morning so I decided to go out to Beda Lake for the fist time.
I got on the water at about 11:00 am. Water temp 69° (Surface) and 63° 15-20'. About 73° and breezy.
I began by using a Stayner Ducktail after seeing a lot of forage fish at the launch. This proved to be a good choice with a nice 16" Rainbow after only a few casts. The next hour or so was used getting to know the lake with my finder looking for holes etc. I caught 2 more on the Stayner and then changed to a damsel pattern after seeing a strong hatch coming on. It worked and I caught 5 more nice Rainbows before I called it a day around 3:00 pm.
I will be back in the area in a week and I think I will go to Lenice/Merry/Nunnually.

The weather was bad, windy and rain. got to fish a few hours between rain showers. Caught one small trout on a Chironomid, but it was slow. Trolled a carey special on a sinking tip line and hooked up with two nice fish, 1 1/2 pounds each. Fishing was slow and I saw very little action from the few other fishermen on the lake.

My first experience on Beda Lake; caught 8 rainbows 16 - 18" using a intermediate sinking line and a flashy bugger. The fish were cruising around in very shallow water you could see the water bulge as they chased the fly. I fished from 9 am to 1 PM but all my catching was before 11 am.

Spent 4 days at Beda lake fly fishing. On Tuesday the State dumped 994 Triploids ranging from 1 to 1 1/2 pounds in the lake. Needless to say, the next few days were fantastic fishing. I cought and released 25 rainbows, most were the planted triploids but one was a four pound native. They seemed to like a green carey special trolled slowly on a sinking tip fly line. Apparently word got out, because the lake slowly filled up with fishermen. On thursday there was little parking room left in the lot and I packed my motorhome and left.

First outing of the year. My buddy and I decided on this lake because it's been good to us. Were the only ones there on arrival; slight overcast, some breeze, fish sipping just off the launch area. Long story short, me two fish, buddy none. Both were on chironomids. Lots of surface sippers but were not interested in our inventory. Water may have been a tad cold at 45 degrees.

Arrived at the lake around 9:30 with very few people there. Rowed out to the main body directly and encountered four other boats drowning chironomids. Didn't see much action during the time I watched them. I worked the reed beds with no results and decided to go deep. Tied on a bleeding leech and let it sink to the bottom. When I started a slow stripping action, I started getting regular hookups with the fish averaging 18". Around 1:00, there was a little surface activity so I tied on a Ginger-face caddis and quickly caught two. I missed the next three strikes and went to change my fly only to discover the hook tip had broken off... Oh well, another lesson learned. My buddy hooked up with the largest fish of the trip; a hen around 24" and full of eggs (see photo if I did it right...) Caught several more fish deep and headed out around 5pm. Great day of fishing!

Landed at Beda Lake with several of the club members around 9a.m. Only a few people there. Clear, cool day (mid fifties) with a water temp of 52 degrees. Headed out for the main body of water and ran into five other boats drowning chironomids with little action. I mainly slow-trolled leech patterns until I realized the fish weren't going to expend much energy. Ended up dead drifting the deep parts of the lake and started getting some serious results. Ended up with nine fish to twenty inches including two on dries, casting to the rings. My buddy netted the biggest fish I've ever seen there, a hen at 25" and full of eggs. No worry, she swam off at full speed after a brief fight...

It was cold and cloudy all day. The front end of Beda Lake was frozen, so my long-time fishing friend Eldon Rickman and I had to hike around the Lake. Fortunately, the main body of the Lake was free of ice and so float tubing was quite pleasant. The water was relatively calm and we were the only two crazy souls except several orange-vested bird hunters around the Lake. We both used Type 5 full sinking lines and 12-3X Olive Woolybuggers. I could not get any strike at all, but Eldon landed 3 rainbows. One was a beautiful, 6-pound, 21-inch-long Triploid, and two others were 17-inch-long rainbows. Even though I could not catch any, seeing my friend landing a gorgeous-looking Triploid was much more exciting than watching college football games.
It appears that we may be able to fish Beda again next week. Hopefully, I can catch a few next week and also will see a few more crazy souls other than us two.
