Well both my boats are in drydock, but my canoe is ever ready and my own personal pond that I stocked with fish many a years ago is always open to me. It's a beautiful 1.25 acre pond that holds some really big fish now. When I put the bass in they were probably under a # and now there is one that is over 12#, I caught him again this morning, he is getting harder to fool in his old age and hangs out in the nastiest brush, I have to throw in the lure and try to get it to hang over a branch and then I just pick the line up and make the lure jump in the same spot, I am using heavy line because he otherwise just breaks you off. Besides LMB there is bullhead, bluegill and perch in the pond, all the trout have died out. The last time I caught a perch it was close to 14" , but it was a jumbo when I put them in to start and they do not seem to be reproducing much or have become a food fish for the others. This lake is fantastic if you know what you are doing. I have never caught less than 4-6 fish each time. They could be bigger though! I've also caught Dolly Varden there(only species that was well over size limits). Too bad we can't keep them. I have best luck with a chrome spoon, no colors. Cast next to bank, especially under overhanging brush.

Fished Aldwell with dry flies from a kickboat, not much doing. tally for the evening was 5 fish from 4"-9" all taken on red size 8-12 caddis and stonefly imitations. It would probably be better to fish with a wet fly on a sink tip, as the water temp seems to be a bit warm and most of the fish have headed for deeper water.

I have changed my tactics for trout in Lake Crescent & am now using a long rod (either a 10' bamboo fly rod or 6wt. 8/12'Sage) with fly reel loaded w/leadcore line and minimum 10-15' leader. The long leader is necessary I guess because the water is so clear.. On Fri. the 6th at 1:30 I caught 2 Beardslee--One was approx 16" and the other 20" exactly. I release all fish due to their dwindling numbers (so I hear). I was using a jointed Rainbow Trout Rapala with the trebles removed & replaced with a single siwash at the tail. Once fish are located, it pays to go back & forth through the area. I motor troll slowly in a zig-zag with about 100' of line out, and try to keep the line angle to minimum so I get deep enough. Using this method I have been able to hook fish in the middle of the day, unlike my success using fly gear, which was early morning. (I get to sleep in.) The fish have a beautiful gunmetal blue to them, and I'm always surprised at how hard they fight. I try to get them in quickly to minimize stress to them, and to better their chance of survival upon release. I haven't been skunked yet using this technique. (knock on wood) Take care.
