While visiting family over in Spokane this week, yesterday I took my son & nephew to West Medical Lake to get them into some fishing together.. no rod/reel for me, this was about the boys hanging out and fishing/catching.. and boy howdy, we put on a clinic.. :)
I did a little research the night before and found some good reports here on WL.com (thanks!) so we made the plan and woke up Wednesday morning and headed for the lake.
We got to the lake and decided to use the fishing dock and pay the $3.50 per fishing boy to use it.. no prob! for the fishing was great!
The fish biting action started right away, but the bites were not sticking, lots of hits and misses for a little bit, but sooner than later those bites started sticking, and fish started coming to our nets.. the boys were on fire! our gear setup was the ticket out on this dock as the boys were catching 3 to 1 against the others on the dock. (we gave some of the folks some of our fish who were less fortunate) ;)
There are some good sized fish in this lake! we had a blast and my nephew who doesn't get to fish that much got to really get into some fish with my son.. I was happy just keeping them setup and coaching.. they did awesome! success all around!
We left the lake after catching our limits and missing twice as many.. headed back into town, and then my son and I caught a plane back to Seattle later in the afternoon.. what a fun last day to our short trip!

Another great day at West Medical! Got to the launch at 0600, not many boats on the water but the bank was fairly loaded already. Headed out straight towards our sweet spot from yesterday, trolling spoons behind us just in case. As we expected, right as we got to the spot, WHAM...first fish of the day, within minutes of being underway.
Much like yesterday, most of our success came trolling spoons. Silver...gold...rainbow..we caught em on each. Unlike yesterday, however we seemed to get alot more strikes about half way up the lake, and maybe 50 yards offshore from the Hospital side. Trolled the spoons about 50 feet back in 35 foot depth. We hooked quite a few more than we got to the boat...if you aren't right on top of these guys, they jump and spit the treble hook right quick.
All in all, couldn't have asked for much more. Its a gamble pulling the youngsters out of bed that early, but thankfully, West Medical made it worthwhile today. Fish on!

On the lake by 8am and first fish in boat by 8:15am. Kept 7 fish and release 4 so they could grow bigger. Range of fish we kept were 13"-22". Most in the 15-18" range.
The one picture with the three fish were 15" and 18" and 22".
Great fishing but was a little windy.
We were done by 11:30am.
Had a nice courtesy safety inspection at the boat launch when we were loading up. Great guy and very helpful. Was missing a couple things for my boat and he was helpful and nice......
Will go back in the future after trying out some of the other area lakes.
We mostly fished the east side of the lake trolling mini flashers with wedding rings and green Gulp power bait balls.
Hope this helps....
Hook em hard!!!

THERE ARE NO FISH HERE. NOTHING TO SEE.
...Ok, just kidding! Hit West Medical for the first time today while the boys were at school and had an AMAZING time with my wife! So much fun that I was reluctant to post a report sharing the good news...But then again, it was these reports that got me to check it out so...fair is fair!
Shore fisherman from the "paid" dock didn't appear to be having much luck, but the shore fisherman at the bank did consistently well floating powerbait and worms off of the bottom. We started off trolling around trailing spoons behind us while scoping out the topography with the fishfinder. Right out in front of where the bank fisherman do so well, there is a rather steep ledge that shoots down to 30+ feet. Marked lots of fish holding at 15-20 feet.
Did ok trolling the spoons, landed a few nice ones. Found a nice hole that seemed to hit every time we passed so we anchored out and tossed spoons for a while. Limited out in about 4 hours.
Not a bad way to spend a day. Will definitely be back this weekend with the boys. Fish on!

Had a great time fishing after work! Made it to the lake around 4ish, launched and started trolling a wedding ring with worms and powerbait. A friend of mine was trolling a perch rapala. He had 3 fish before i even got a bite (20 min) so i switched over to my secret weapon rapala and took away all his luck :) Had quite a few nice fish with the biggest just shy of 3lbs.
Glad we hit west medical and we will be back! On to Williams lake on Sunday.
Who needs to run bloomsday anyways :)
Happy fishing all!

Very Nice day on the watter I cought 2, 11+" trout and my Mom caught 5 total, 3 at 8" and 2 over 11" we let the 8 inchers go and took the four decent ones for the smoker. the lake was very calm with only a few other boaters. we were troling with willow leafs pulling a worm. Our best luck was in the middle of the lake. we didn't get any bites near the edges. The edges had alot of alge and the whole lake had green floaties. but thats kinda to be expected at the end of summer. I would have given it a 5 but we didn't limit out like we normaly do.

Even with the forecast for extreme heat, I decided to give W. Medical another try. The wife and I went out fairly early and were rewarded with a limit each. The smallest fish was about 11", but the rest were in the 13" - 15" range. I cleaned each fish directly after catching it and put each one right on ice. The water near shore is "bathtub warm" and beginning to show the infamous, W.Medical mid-summer green goo. I saw the majority of bank anglers putting their trout on a stringer to turn white and yukky in the warm bankside water. I BBQ'ed several of our catch later at home and experienced no muddy taste; I'll smoke the rest. I had little left over litter to P/U this time and even heard a nearby angler telling a younger fellow, "If you pack it in; pack it out".

Beautiful day for fishing today and my wife and I both caught our limits with trout up to 16". Nice to see several Dads out with their little girls. The water quality is very good for this time of year and the rainbow's flesh is a nice light orange color. I clean all the fish shortly after catching them and put them on ice...NO muddy taste and a firmer flesh texture that way. I saw a number of fishermen leaving them on the stringer to turn white and later...YUK! Litter is a problem, but better than in past years. I did my usual Litterbug P/U and only got about 2/3's of a plastic grocery bag.
