These obviously weren't all taken on the same day. I just had a really great year so far (at least for me seeing as though I have already caught more fish, especially giants, then I caught all last year) that I wanted to share some pictures with y'all.Hope you enjoy the shots. Tight lines y'all.

So I decided to give Samish River a shot, even after watching YouTube videos and learning that it's "combat" fishing. Figured I'd give it a go before the Chinook completely turn. Fortunately no crowds since it's a weekday.

Tons of fish jumping, only saw two caught by a guy drifting eggs, which is what I was doing. I just couldn't get myself to do the 1oz jig thing. Do people really think the Chinook are biting these heavy jigs that are just sitting at the bottom? I watched all the guys besides the one who caught tossing these gigantic jigs and wait for something to happen as the line sits motionless in the slow, almost not moving, water. Based on what I saw I can only assume that the line sits tight since the jig is so heavy and fish just run into the line, at which time the angler yanks the rod and "hooks the fish in the mouth." Is that about how it goes?

Well, regardless of whether or not the Chinook actually bite I learned through experience that this isn't my style of fishing. I got tons of bites with my eggs, left when I ran out. Considering all the fish that were jumping I can only assume it was Chinook taking my roe and not smaller fish like, perhaps, cutthroat? I'll stick to the upper river and stronger currents.

This is a combined report from yesterday (Saturday) and today (Sunday, 10/5). Yesterday was good but not as good as Friday - lots of fish being caught but definitely a notch lower than Friday.

Today (Sun) there were far fewer fishermen, but the tide was an hour later and a little higher. Number of fish caught was down probably 80% over Saturday and 90% over Friday. Between dusk and about 8am, I hooked 3 on jigs - all three broke my 15 lb. line, so I switched to 20 and sat there for 2 hours without a bite.

Once tide went slack, I went to roe and just bottom drifted - hooked and landed a big buck on the 1st cast but he was pretty dark so I let him go. Hooked/landed another about 30 min later - another buck I wanted to let go but the roe was so far down his gullet that I got a piece of his gill when trying to take it out. It was curtains for him so I kept it - fairly decent light orange flesh...definitely good for the smoker.

Tomorrow (Mon) is probably the last day to get a king on the Samish. Tides go wonky starting Tuesday and the percentage of bright kings is down to under 20% now.

Photos are from yesterday (Saturday)

What a great time today out on the samish, lots of people but tons of fish. Hooked into about eight fish all mouth hooked and landed a nice bright 18 pound king, while my buddy landed an even brighter 35 pound hen with a nice couple skeins of eggs. Thought combat fishing would have been a bad experience but it wasn't at all, good group of fisherman out there and everyone helping each other,at it again reel soon, tight lines.

Another crazy good day on the river. Ran into a few friends I only see during fishing season.
I didn't have any luck w/the glow scampi - fished from an hour before to an hour after with little luck.
Changed to a single chartreuse worm on a glow yellow head. Bites right away - landed a nice bright buck (had him for dinner...awesome doesn't even come close!). Got a 20lb hen on the very next cast and fought her for 5-10 min all the way upstream before I landed her another super bright fish. I was done by 8am and watched my buddies limit by 10.

Great day on the river - going again tomorrow!

Lots of kings still coming in. Saw several times when there was 3-4 online at the same time. I hooked 2 in the first 3 casts (morning bite).

LOTS of snaggers! The 'Bratva' was there in numbers as well as the Vietnamese clan - all working together and taking every single fish hooked.
I saw a Vietnamese guy fight a big king all the way down river and net it - the hook was clearly in the dorsal fin. They're down there a super long time and walk back with the fish still in the net but now the hook is in the mouth - he said "I couldn't get it out of the net" when I asked what took so long, and when I mentioned it looked like the hook moved to a more 'legal' spot, he said there was another hook in it.

Russian guys did the same BS - guy on my right belly-hooked a nice chrome one and then kicked it up on shore and put it on his stringer! Where is the warden when you want them??

2 bites 2 fish, can't complain about that. I can complain about the amount of trash being obviously left behind by "fishermen"! Pack it out people, unless you're just too physically weak and lazy to carry an empty water bottle?! Ridiculous.

Ok, so just let me start off by saying that I moved up here from Fort Hood, TX back in Jan 2013. Since that time I have tried all that Mother North West has to offer in the fishing industry. I mean fishing fresh and salt, clamming, crabbing, squid-din and craw dad-din. I mean everything. Allot of trial, more error and some pretty beneficial rewards. With that being said, the other day was a high for me because until this fine Monday morning I have caught Pinks, Silvers, Ling Cod, Crab and even a Dolly or two. Finally landed my first King. Now he wasn't the sexiest of all kings, but It was my first and boy does he taste good. Hit the Samish by the tracks at about 0630 and landed him by 0700. Put up a good 10 minute fight and came in very unwillingly. Why did I give it 5 star for only one fish. It was my first and a great experience because there wasn't too much fishing pressure were I was and it was a beautiful morning to boot. Tight lines y'all..

drove up to the Samish River very early this morning but the wind was so strong that we didnt stay. we fished from 630 to 930 and saw several jumping around us but didnt get anything on our set ups. we were fishing two different cures of eggs to see what was working better but didnt have any real luck. only saw one fish get brought in and there were very few people there. we fished up and down the mouth but could not find where they were at. hopefully we can have better luck next time.
