Thanks to David for the following overview:
Stan Coffin Lake, part of the Quincy Wildlife Area, is located in Grany County inbetween George and Quincy. Stan Coffin, along with H, and part of the Ancient Lakes were rehabilitated in the fall of 1992 to remove carp. In 1993 to improve warmwater fishing in the Quincy area, the lake was stocked with bass and bluegill fingerlings. This lake is Catch-N-Release for bass which is reason for the excellent largemouth bass fishing. Although not everybody pays attention to the regs. When we were there, people either didnt care that it was C&R or didnt know. A sign needs to be posted.
There are 2 launches on the North end of the lake. The closest to the entrance is the wdfw launch which is concrete planks. Traction may be a little tricky when algae growth is at its highest. There is a second launch just past the first which is cluttered with rocks. More of a fishing area, or car-topper launch. Parking is limited to 5 truck/trailer and 5 car spots although more parking is available alongside the road. There is one vault style bathroom on the lake. Camping is allowed in the QWA(Quincy Wildlife Area) for 15 days, just remember "Pack it in, Pack it out."
Stan Coffin, a 41 acre lake has a maximum depth of about 20 feet found down the channel on the east end of the lake. The steepest dropoffs are found here going from 2 to 10 to 20 feet quickly which is ideal for a bass fisherman. During the summertime the grass/milfoil growth gets pretty heavy so make sure to keep your trolling motor blades sharp. Wind can make things a little difficult so you will want to make sure and bring an anchor and a gas motor for when your trolling battery goes dead from the wind pushing you. When launching there is an "Island" in the middle of the lake just to the right. Watch out for it. We had found the best fishing was the little cove, straight out and a little left of the launch on the opposite side of the lake. Good drop-offs and stucture for bass to hide in. Crappie/Perch surfacing constantly in this area for those looking for a campfire dinner. Much luck was had with 4"-5" senkos, more natural colors although im sure all would work. Also had good luck with a topwater Chugger/Popper at boat launch early in the morning catching 2 3lb largemouth.
